HIGHLANDS RANCH ROTARY

Rotary; Giving Back To Our Community

July 9 Luncheon

007I’m pretty darn picky about my spaghetti and meatballs, and I must say, Lone Tree did a good job.  I don’t know about everyone else, but I thought it was yummy and even distracted everyone at my table so I could sneak back for a small 2nd helping.    I want everyone to know, I didn’t have any bread or dessert.     🙂

008

Referencing our 4-Way Test:  IS IT THE TRUTH?  It is the truth, I DID NOT  have dessert, this is a picture of Bill Leeper’s selection.

009Jerry Selinfreund took the podium for the first time as our new President.

Jan Keyton introduced our guests:
Visiting Rotarians

Jan Weinberger, Evergreen Rotary
Howard Hoch, Evergreen Rotary
Jane Kuckarski

Jerry introduced Bob Martin, who at that time presented awards to members who could not attend the Changing of the Guard event.

Jerry reminded all of the Highlands Ranch Rotary Golf Tournament coming up on the afternoon of Friday, August 14. Jerry encouraged and invited all non-golfers to join the group at the Highlands Ranch Golf Clubhouse after golf for dinner and cocktails.

Tracy Tipton invited all to attend their annual party at the Tipton Hacienda. Sunday July 12. Activities include: horseshoes, driveway golf, darts, pool, mojitos and margaritas. Tracy also promised Mrs. T’s world famous chicken enchiladas.

Jerry announced an event he is organizing at Hudson Gardens. The British Group Herman’s Hermits will be performing on August 23, 6:30. Cost per Rotarian is $20. Jerry led us all in a rousing sing along of “There’s a Kind of Hush”. 🙂  I’m personally not old enough to remember the song and lyrics, but noticed many other members joining in.  ok…ok….. “Is It The Truth”  ……  yup I was singing too.

The 50/50 money contest continues.  Purchasers of tickets have the opportunity to guess the gender, date and time for the upcoming new Heagren arrival.  Good luck contestants.

Mary Kay Hasz inducted Spencer Mueller as a new member.  Welcome Spencer.

Lone Tree served us fettuccine topped with a crab cake.  Sorry, no pictures of the food, they turned out horrible.  Which is a shame, as the crab cake was served inside a crab shell.  Gourmet!

Mary Kay Hasz introduced our speaker: Karie Erickson.  Karie lives in Perry Park with her husband Steve of 23 years, they have 3 children and moved to Colorado from Alaska.

Karie works as the program coordinator for the Douglas County Neighbor Network, a volunteer based program set up to help the elderly and disabled in our county.  When Karie started a year ago, the program had 8 participants.  The group is now up to 200.  Karie informed us about the project.

With one country represented by each letter of the alphabet, the book addresses the many heart wrenching issues plaguing the world’s children: genocide, child labor, human trafficking, the use of child soldiers, poverty, AIDS and the devastating effects of corrupt governments to name a few. It invites the reader to consider these issues through vibrant portraits that illustrate the emotions and vulnerability of each child.

Caryn gave a powerful presentation on her journey in the creation of this book.  For every book sold at our lunch, Caryn offered to give $10 per book back to our club.

May 28 Lunch

Doug Ehrlich, owner of Auto Buyer’s Pro, was our speaker for our May 28 lunch.  Doug, a local Auto Broker Professional, talked with our group about the state of our National auto makers. The information he brought was timely, expert and valuable.   So many questions from the floor demanded that Bob Martin cut the presentation short due to time.  Thanks to Debby Novotny for always bringing good speakers to our club.

On Saturday, May 16, Highlands Ranch Rotary threw a baby shower for the Heagrens. Mary Kay Hasz hosted the shower at her house serving up a delicious sortment of salads, mimosas, and the star of the day was her homemade crescent rolls, which were “ohmygosh” good.  We had about 20 ladies in attendance and had just the best time.  View photos in the Flickr archives.
